Da Capo (Deutschlandpremiere)

Yui Kawaguchi & Aki Takase (Berlin)

fabrik Potsdam

At the beginning of the 20th century, Madame Hanako (1868-1945) set off for Europe and aroused oppressive admiration with her body art. Between migration and emancipation, fascination and alienation, this former geisha had an unusual fate. Rodin was also fascinated by the Japanese woman's expression and sought to capture it in grueling portrait sessions... Inspired by her story, choreographer Yui Kawaguchi and pianist Aki Takase thematize the feeling of strangeness and celebrate the clash of cultures and art forms. Together with the French clarinetist Louis Sclavis, the Berlin DJ Illvibe and the dancer Kofie da Vibe, they play with falsification, clichés, and exoticism. Dancers and musicians meet each other in a variety of forms. Jazz, New Music, Folklore Imaginaire, hip-hop, and electronic sounds create moments of interpretation, rapprochement and appropriation of the foreign and break with expectations.
