"'Everything straight lies,' murmured the dwarf disdainfully. 'All truth is crooked, time itself is a circle.'" (F. Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra)
During the last Tanztage Festival, the audience was enthralled by Clément Layes' piece "Title", a weird combination of slapstick, circus art, building-site-charm and winkingly humour. This mindful juggler of ideas and language whirls arround words, chairs, wooden boards and knight's armours and catches them in reverse order. Everything is in perpetual motion, in permanent mutation, in steady new-becoming.
This time Clément Layes invites everybody interested in his performance practice to take part in the research for his new piece, which will premier in Berlin in october 2017. Layes got inspired, among other things, by the short film "tango" from polnish animation filmmaker Zbigniew Rybczyński. In the performance atelier, the work will revolve around principles of repetition and accumulation. The participants invent and practice individually smaller and longer movement loops that are related to the space, objects and other characters. At the end of the workshop stands a public presentation. We are already curious to see how under the direction of Clément Layes and the assistance of two other professional performers with lots of inventiveness and playing joy a complex circuit looping-system will pop up on stage.
Free admission and participation
